myKeturah experience – Keturah Johnson

I just got back from an unexpected last minute treat – Keturah Johnson playing a quick set at The Raw Sugar Café! Keturah is a genuine artist and has such raw talent. (and her voice is soooo amazing!) We’re so lucky to have her here, contributing to the Ottawa music scene. Thanks Brent and Lindsay for the invite! :)

myBest Fish & Chips experience – The HPH in Hintonburg

Tonight I was lucky enough to have what I think is Ottawa’s best fish and chips, at the Hintonburg Public House.  The HPH has turned into the best casual and the hippest Ottawa restaurant everyone is talking about. The friendly staff and the recycled urban environment make you feel right at home – it’s totally worth the wait to get in!

mySuzyQ experience – SuzyQ Doughnuts

Who doesn’t love doughnuts!? It’s the simplest of offerings – and maybe the yummiest! We’re so lucky to have a new fun business in Hintonburg – SuzyQ Doughnuts! They make and sell everything from ‘Maple and Bacon’ to ‘Raspberry and Lemon’, but my all time favorite is the simple and sooooo delicious ‘Sugar’ doughnut. :)

myJack’s experience – Jack Astor’s Kanata

Jack Astor’s in Kanata is always a super fun experience! The music is cranked-up and energetic, the food is oh so awesome and the staff are without a doubt the friendliest. I guess it’s not just that they’re all genuinely friendly, but they all go out of their way to make sure everyone is having a great time! Last night while my buddy Brent and I were there – Spencer was up to his cool tricks behind the bar, Claire and Alicia juggled the busy and long awaited patio, Dave (Pony) cooked up some amazing salmon for us and Amy (our server) took great good care of us! If you haven’t been yet or not in a while, you need to go spend time in Ottawa’s funnest and friendliest restaurant – Jack’s in Kanata!

myHPH experience – Hintonburg Public House

Hintonburg is exploding with cool restaurants to hang out and eat at. Tonight I’m enjoying working at the bar at The Hintonburg Public House, sipping on a nice Cabernet Merlot.  While I decide on what to eat, Toby’s taking great care of me!  :)

Wow!!! I just had the Duck Confit and an order of the best fries I’ve ever had! Aaaaaamazing!

Ottawa’s new HPH is awesome! :)

myLunch experience – Bite This! (a great quick lunch!)

I had a great lunch the other day at this cool gourmet lunch trailer on Scott Street called Bite This! My buddy Clare and I both had an awesome Greek sandwich and shared a super delicious bag of hand cut fries. Oh yeah – and there’s nothing over $10.00 on the menu. Thanks Kacy and Donna!

myCatwalk experience – Fashion Week in Ottawa

Ottawa Fashion Week has come to town and I’ve had an all access photo pass to check out the event! Ottawa doesn’t have the hype like other bigger cities, but it still produces some awesome designers and puts on a great show – oh yeah and the models were pretty nice too!  ;)

mySpring Roll experience – Spring Roll House Café

I’m super lucky to have the best Vietnamese spring rolls in Ottawa, right in my Hintonburg neighborhood. The neighborhood is a buzz with new restaurant and store front development it seems, with new places to eat like Burnt Butter, Black Lane Café and Tennessy Willems Pizza. But I keep going back to the Spring Roll Cafe – the food is always excellent and the folks that run it are always super nice. And yes, their spring rolls are the best in Ottawa!  :)

myPizza experience – The Grand Pizzeria (best pizza in Ottawa)

Last night my son and I had a couple of Friday night pizzas at The Grand Pizzeria restaurant in the Byward Market. I know everyone has a different opinion of who serves the best pizza in Ottawa, but for us it’s The Grand and their wood burning Napoletana pizza oven! And for me it’s never just about the food (which is number one at The Grand), it’s has to also be about the experience – and the experience at The Grand is always great! Ryan and his team always take super good care of you and make you feel at home. A big thanks to Kelsey for taking such good care of us last night!

myCanal – Ottawa’s Rideau Canal

After living in Canada’s Capital for almost 11 years and shooting so much tourism imagery of the city, I’m still so jazzed at what a gorgeous city Ottawa is. The historic Rideau Canal is such a beautiful landmark to explore, with a view of the Parliament Buildings, it’s just a short walk down from the Chateau Laurier Hotel and the new Ottawa Convention Centre.
